The Kailua-Kaneohe Sewer Tunnel and Pumping Station (and Some Career Advice) September 3, 2015

Raymond N. Matasci
Senior Vice President, Pacific Area Leader, Brown and Caldwell

The City and County of Honolulu is constructing a new $350M sewer tunnel and influent pumping station in windward Oahu to protect public health and water quality in Kailua and Kaneohe Bays.  The new 3-mile long, 10-ft-diameter tunnel and 45-mgd pumping station will convey and store daily and peak wet weather flows and protect the existing regional treatment plant from hydraulic overload.  This presentation will explore the engineering and construction challenges associated with and creativity needed for such a significant regional wastewater infrastructure project.  So do you think engineering is only about applied math and science? Think again…  This presentation will also explore some of the skills that today’s engineers need to effectively take on some of the biggest and most fun challenges of our time.
